| Zverev (and Geppe) were probably the first to document extensively the filter analysis and synthesis (i.e., design) using computer simulation in the 1960's. Zverev's book has been used widely ever since, some of his curves and tables being reproduced verbatim in more recent books. The frequency response, impulse response, step response, and group delay response for many kinds of filters are included, from which the user may choose the kind of response he needs. Then, tables of element values are given from which R-L-C filters can be designed. Response types like Chebyshev, Butterworth, Bessel, Elliptical, Gaussian, Linear Phase, Equiripple Phase, Synchronously tuned, Gaussian-to-6dB, Gaussian-to-12dB. How to deal with unrealistic element values; how to translate from lowpass to bandpass or highpass. Early editions do have some typo errors in the tables which are corrected in later editions. I have personally used the tables for years with great success, and when I do SPICE simulations with them, I find that they are mathematically exact. This book is an historic classic, and I do not know of anything published since then that can top it. |
